Tennis is currently ranked first in the pre-season ranking for 4A with a record of 4-2. They will play this Saturday against Center starting at 9 a.m.

It definitely feels good,” coach Randall Namanny said. “We have an outstanding group of players and coaches that have worked really hard to get there.”

The team suffered two losses to Longview and top 25 in the state Tyler Legacy High School. They currently have wins over Ennis, Kerrville, Bullard, and Tyler High School.

“It means a lot to start this season ranked number one,” senior Fiona Turney said,” I hope to continue to succeed throughout this season.”

The team beat Bullard 18-1 and are currently 1-0 against 4A teams.  Emilio Rodriguez is ranked first on the boys ladder and Breanna Taylor is ranked first on the girls.

“I feel like it gives us confidence, showing that we can make it to state again this year,” senior Hayden Harry said. “I’m looking forward to this fall season and just to be with the team to compete for state.”

The team meets  8th period and practices until 5:30 Monday through Thursday. Along with practices many students also participate in extracurricular activities such as band, UIL academics, and more.

“It feels really good being ranked one,” senior Emilio Rodriguez said. “It gives us a reason to work harder knowing we have such high expectations for ourselves.”

The team officially began practicing on July 31 to prepare for the upcoming season. Before official practices, many attended team workouts at Fusion weekly and played in public tournaments.

“They are working hard everyday,” Namanny said. “The team is hungry to get better and every time we walk on the court we are looking to improve.”
