All District Awards Presented to Varsity Basketball Teams

The girls varsity team breaks out of a huddle to start the game. Each player on the team received the title of “Academic All District Team”.

Both the girls and boys varsity basketball teams received  All District awards for the past season. The coaches nominate the players for each title and opposing coaches then vote on who is most deserving. 

“I am super proud of the girls and how well they did this year,” girls varsity assistant coach Derek Dukes said. “Me and coach Devisscher had a great time nominating each girl, because honestly with how hard they worked this season, each girl deserved to be honored.”

Ella Hutchins was honored with the superlative of Freshman of The Year, the only superlative awarded on the team. Each girl on the team was honored with the title of Academic All District Team with senior Marley Keith and senior Lydia Payne making 1st Team All District.

“It means a lot to be honored with the title of 1st Team All District,” senior Marley Keith said. “I’ve been honored with a superlative and/or been voted 1st Team all four years I’ve played on varsity but the feeling never gets old.”

2nd Team All District players for the girls include: senior Allie Davenport, junior Makinsey Beaudion, and junior Kennedy MillerHonorable Mention All District players include: senior Felicity Thiem, junior Elise Pierce, sophomore Abigail Lee, and sophomore Alyssa Potts. 4 freshman, Madison Devisscher, Lyric Eagans, Ma’Kaylin Smith, and Ella Hutchens also received an All District award.

“As a senior, this year has been so important to me,” Allie Davenport said. “Not only winning an award myself but watching my fellow teammates and the future of Lindale basketball be honored was so special.”

The varsity boys team also earned district  awards. The whole team received the title of Academic All District.

“It’s been a great year for the boys,” boys varsity coach Caden Clark said. “We had our rough patches, but I always knew I could count on each and every one of them to rise above and fight harder the next time around.”

Senior Cole Collingsworth was honored with the title of 1st Team All District. Honorable Mentions were handed out to two juniors: Hudson LeGrow and Davis Carnathan, and two seniors; Kyesen Ripley and Connor McClendon.

“First Team All District is such an amazing title to hold, especially since I have been hurt pretty much all season,” senior Cole Collingsworth said. “It felt good to be honored my senior year, one last time, before I leave this team for good.”

Diya is a sophomore staff writer for the Eagle Eye and a member of the Speech and Debate team. She is a flute player for the Pride of Lindale band. Diya enjoys listening to music mostly Taylor Swift and hanging out with her friends. She hopes to attend the University of Washington and major in biology to pursue a career in dentistry.

Josey is a sophomore and a staff writer for the Eagle Eye. She is currently involved in the Creative Writing Club and the Art Club. In her free time, she mainly crochets, draws, or writes. She plans to take a gap year for traveling prior to deciding on a college.

Jaida is a senior and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Eagle Eye and a fourth-year theater student. She has performed in shows such as 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Caucasian Chalk Circle.'
