On January 8, the Lindale FFA team attended the 2014 Mineola District Convention. While at the convention they were honored for success at leadership contests. Lindale accepted awards for third in Ag Issues, second in Chapter Conducting, and first in Creed Speaking. Also, Senior Dylan Bacon was elected to represent the Mineola district as the first ever state officer from Lindale. He will be running against other candidates from three other districts in Area VI at the Area Convention on February 24.

“It’s pretty surreal, I never thought that I would make it this far in elections beyond the Chapter level,” Bacon said. “It’s a really tough field, so I’m nervous, but I welcome a little challenge. It would be a dream come true if I were officially elected, because I have wanted to be a State FFA Officer since my freshmen year, and getting to represent my district would just be incredible.”

On top of being selected as candidate to represent the Mineola District as State Officer, Bacon and his sister won the Talent Team portion of the last convention with their barnstorming clogging routine. They are advancing to compete at the Area Talent Contest at the 2014 Area VI Convention.

“I am a little bit nervous about getting back up on stage,” Bacon said. “However, I am not nervous about our performance. I believe we are ready, and we have a little something different cooked up for Area. We are ready, and either they like us or they don’t; the performance will take care of itself.”

Junior Kayla Fields was elected to the 2014-2015 Mineola District Officer Team at the convention as well. Her new responsibilities as District Secretary includes serving 23 schools from Whitehouse to Quitman, and from Canton to Winona.
