Seniors ranked in the 25% of the class were invited to attend a celebration at the University of Texas at Tyler. It included food trucks, yard games, campus tours, an organization fair, and an information session.

“This is a great opportunity to meet new people from other districts, explore a college campus, and learn about a university that is in our back door,” counselor Tamica Collard said. “Many times UT Tyler is overlooked by our students even though it can be a very affordable and a credible option for secondary education.”

The event teaches students about UT Tyler’s programs and scholarships and includes a panel of current students discussing their college life on campus. Students who attend UT Tyler who are in the Top 25% of their high school graduating class are eligible to receive a $2,000 scholarship from UT Tyler. The scholarship is renewable for four years as long as one continues to meet the UT Tyler criteria.

“I am looking forward to watching the Class of 2024 continue to lead the underclassmen in their given organizations, promoting a positive, compassionate culture, and strong work ethic that will leave a lasting impact on LHS,” Collard said. “The Class of 2024 is destined to leave a positive legacy.”
