Volleyball and football district awards have been announced. Volleyball won 14 awards total and football won 8.
“They are the top players because of their abilities,” head football coach Chris Cochran said. “They also set a different standard in how they practice. They always practice hard, they very rarely have bad days.”
The coaches in the district nominate their players for certain awards based on their stats from district games. Then the coaches come together to vote on the winner. Senior Will Hutchens received the All East Texas Offensive Lineman named to the first ever THSCA SuperEliteTeam, as well as earning the offensive lineman of the year.
“I love football for the lessons I learn not just about football but about life,” senior Will Hutchens. “I appreciate how it helps me learn to push myself.”
Seniors Kennedy Weesner and Brooke Tweedell received Honorable Mention team All-District and Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) Academic All-State.
“All the girls that received a district award work very hard everyday and have very high expectations of themselves,” head coach Jessica Dimsdle said. “The girls are very coachable and want to know what to fix to be even better.”
Kayli Vickery won the title Blocker of the Year and Texas Sportswriters Association (TSWA) Honorable Mention Middle Blocker for 112 season blocks.
“Throughout the season I worked very hard to make sure my blocks were on point,” junior Kayli Vickery said. “My favorite part about volleyball is just being able to play with all my friends and Coach Dimsdle of course.”
