The life skills class is selling popcorn to teachers every Tuesday for $1. This allows the students to engage in work based learning they can later apply to their future jobs.
“It’s very encouraging, seeing the kids out there with the teachers,” life skills teacher Kelley Dickerson said. “They really enjoy being out of the classroom and interacting with other teachers in the area because they are usually in their classrooms.”
After receiving a grant, they were able to purchase a popcorn machine. Through this, they have bought the needed supplies to sell the popcorn. The students make the popcorn, pack it, and finally deliver it for the teachers. The kids also deal with all the money themselves.
“I am definitely excited about this,” Dickerson said. “It’s great for the kids, so I’m excited. There are definitely some smiles on their faces. We are wanting to make coffee, candy bars, and cokes and things like that too.”
