A community gathering for both deaf and hearing persons is scheduled at Whataburger on Friday. It is an open invitation to anyone who is deaf, as well as ASL students, TJC interpreting students, instructors, and anyone interested in practicing communication with the deaf community.

“I encourage all my students to attend,” Lindale ASL instructor Amy Thompson said. “It helps them to learn and gain confidence in the skills we practice in class. There is nothing better than hands-on, real-life learning.”

One of the main purposes of the event is to assist ASL students in their learning by giving them the opportunity to talk to the deaf people around them.

“They come back all excited to share what they learned,”  Thompson said. “They learn new signs as well as meet people and make connections with people within our community of Lindale.”
