Press Release: COVID-19 Concerns Prompt School Closures

Press Release:

March 13, 2020
4:00 p.m.
Lindale ISD Parents/Guardians,
All school superintendents of Smith County and several other administrators across East Texas met today with County Health Officials.
We have been in contact with the Texas Education Agency and the Governor’s office as well. After hearing the data and learning about the facts related to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and the spread of this virus across our nation, Texas and Smith County, we have determined for the safety of our entire community, all Smith County schools will be closed during the week of March 16– 20.
This will include the cancellations of all UIL extracurricular events, games, and practices. Smith County superintendents and county health officials will meet again next week to determine if a longer school closure is necessary.
We are encouraging all families to take this epidemic seriously. Please limit travel and large group gatherings. By limiting large group gatherings and practicing social distancing, we as a community can slow the spread of this virus.
For students on our Free and Reduced Lunch Program, bagged lunches. will be available for pick-up starting Monday, March 16, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the E J Moss EAST cafeteria. This will continue daily until we return back to school.
Again, Lindale schools and all Smith County schools will be closed for the week of March 16th – 20.
Please keep our schools, community and nation in your prayers.
Stan Surratt
Superintendent
Lindale ISD
