Target Grant Supports Revitalized Lindale High School Choir Program


The harmonic sounds of young voices are rising again in a newly revitalized choir program at Lindale High School thanks in part to a grant from Target.

A Target Community Giving Grant from the Target Distribution Center located near I-20 East in Smith County was awarded to the Lindale ISD Education Foundation for $8,500 to support the choir. Funds from the grant Eagle Voices were donated to LHS to support the purchase of risers, uniforms, sheet music and music playback equipment for the program.

Budget constraints in 2007 led to the elimination of the choir program at LHS until 2012. The program was revitalized in small form on a limited budget during the 2012-2013 school year under the direction of Phillip Nix. The class is now offered twice a day at the high school and students are able to travel and compete in University Interscholastic League events.

“Supporting the performing arts is something Target believes in and we believe in giving back to the community,” said Target Distribution Center Community Relations Coordinator Jamie Daniel. “We believe this is a great opportunity for Lindale students and we wanted to support them.”

“We are just so glad the program is back,” said Target Distribution Center Grant Coordinator Cindy Renea.

Daniel, Renea and Target Distribution Center General Manager Wade Troxell visited one of the LHS choir classes this week. Nix and his students treated the Target representatives to a song performance and shouted a loud “thank you” for the grant.

“We are extremely grateful for the funds that were granted to us by the Target Distribution Center,” Nix said. “The risers and equipment that we purchased with the grant money will aid in the development of the choir program for years to come.”

The Lindale ISD Education Foundation applied for the Target Community Giving Grant to support the needs of the campus and program. The foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports LISD projects and programs not funded or under-funded by the district’s operating budget. For more information visit
