Basketball Starts the Season With Confidence

The basketball season started up November 10 for girls basketball and the boys basketball team plays tonight at 7:30 for the season starter. The teams have been practicing since October 25.

“I think we are a team that is going to get better every time we take the floor and in every game this season,” head boys basketball coach Chris Grotemat said. “Our goal is to be peaking at the right time.”

Since school started, the teams have been preparing for their upcoming seasons by working out, practicing new skills and learning plays. Starting in late October, both teams have been lifting weights during their athletic periods and practicing for hours after school each day.

“I think the offseason mentality and the things we did in offseason were really beneficial,” senior Joe Noble said. “Now that season has come around I can tell that we are in pretty good shape.”

This is the first season for both Grotemat and girls’ basketball coach Dalinda Cassel to serve as leaders of the basketball teams.

“I’m super excited for this season,” senior Justin Chambers said. “I’m looking forward to the final journey of senior year, and I really want to make our two new coaches’ first year here a good one.”

Although preseason is just starting up, the teams are preparing for their first rounds of district play in early January. The success of this preseason could help lift spirits and form a strong bond between players and coaches.

“I’m extremely excited to start my senior season of basketball,” senior Kaylee Barfield said. “Coach Cassell is challenging us in every aspect to make us better as a whole. I hope that in this returning season we can continue to strive as a team.”
