Students Create Spooky Treats in Culinary Classes

Halloween themed cake prepared in culinary. Treats will be judged by teachers Thursday afternoon.

The culinary class prepared Halloween themed treats that were evaluated by teachers on Thursday afternoon. The class had a total of one week to cook and decorate their treats with a partner.

The only rule to this project is that it must be Halloween themed. Last week, culinary students planned for their projects and constructed a timeline.

“Me and my partner are baking cheesecake and we are putting it in a brain bowl,” senior Logan Sanders said. “You can bake anything you want, the only rule is it has to be Halloween-themed.”

Previously, the culinary students have completed a breakfast unit. The students’ focus was on different styles and ways to prepare foods.

“Everybody gets to experience what it’s like under stressful situations,” junior Lindsey Luce said. “We get to express ourselves as individuals, not just through what we feel like but also through our baking.”

The main focus throughout culinary is to learn how to function under high-pressure situations and develop teamwork skills.

“In the kitchen we learn how to work together in tense situations,” junior Emma Kennedy said. “The most important skill is teamwork.”

Previous units, such as their egg unit, also worked to strengthen creativity in the kitchen. Projects are designed to allow students creative freedom.

“I love the people in my class,” junior Emma Kennedy said. “ My favorite part of the project is how everyone can express their creativity.”
