Annual alumni game returns

Soccer alums match up with current soccer players

Lindale High School’s Alumni Soccer team returned to the field December 19. Every year the alumni return and compete against the boys and girls soccer teams. This year the alumni proved that just because they graduated doesn’t mean they still can’t play.

“I went in scared because it was my first alumni game,” junior Filipe Contaifer said. “But after we scored the first goal, I was no longer intimidated. It was a fun, friendly game.”

It was a very close game until there was about 15 minutes left. Boys Varsity was in the lead but after the alumni got back into the feel of playing they came back and won 4-2.

“It’s really intimidating playing against the alumni,” senior Lily Hering said. “A lot of these girls play in college and seeing a ball coming at you from the feet of someone who is really good is scary because the only thing standing between the ball and the goal is me. It was really cool though because we can learn from them.”

The girls varsity team and the alumni actually ended the game in a tie 1-1. The coaches believe this year’s alumni game was a success.

“I’m pretty satisfied with the outcome, especially since we were competing against college players,” boys soccer coach Jason Lawless said. We didn’t win but we did score first, which was the most exciting part of the game.”
