FFA Competes At District Convention

FFA competed at the 2023 Mineola district convention in Quitman winning 16 awards.

“We were the second most winning team, we were only behind by one point,” FFA sponsor Donald Wernecke said. “We had a really good night that night.”

During the convention, over 20 different schools competed ranging from all different classifications. Overall, Lindale placed second in the convention.

“District Convention is one of my favorite parts of the year,” senior Jaqueline Rand said. “It’s a great opportunity to spend time with members from other schools and celebrate the accomplishments of the previous year.”

Sophomore Layne Olds became the district president and Rand become a state qualifier. There were also nine other LED awards given.

“Being president of the district is not necessarily leading the district, it is stepping down to help others,” Olds said. “Being a great leader means to serve others, not being above people. I find that really interesting about FFA. It’s so diverse, and you don’t have to “fit in” to be successful.”
