The varsity Eagles football team won their bi-district playoff game against Vidor 45 to 23. The team will play again next Friday against Brazosport in Georgetown.
“We are very excited about earning another week together,” head football coach Chris Cochran said. “This past week there were 64 teams left and now there are 32. We are honored to be in that group. The more you win in the playoffs, the more exciting it gets for everyone.”
The football game was held in Bryan with Lindale taking the lead in the first quarter 21 to seven. Junior Clint Thurman scored a total of two touchdowns with players Marcus Field, Caleb Hart, Wyatt Parker, and Alex Romero scoring one.
“Winning that game was a great feeling because it was a great team win,” senior Will Hutchens said. “We all played really well in all aspects of the game. The only way from here is up.
The team had a total of 313 rushing yards and 62 passing yards. Aiden Warnell had 14 tackles and Ryan Stanton had 12. In the second quarter Lindale was up 31 to seven and 38 to 15 in the third.
“Although it was really cold, our first playoff game was super fun,” junior Star Stepper Landen Gill said. “I really enjoyed our new spontaneous pregame and I am more than excited to continue dancing this Friday.”
Both the varsity boys and girls basketball teams entered the start of their season with a victory. The boys basketball team will play again Tuesday against Chapel Hill in Lindale at 5 p.m.
