New year, new class

CTE department adds new CNA class

The Certified Nursing Assistant class at LHS is a brand new, dual-credit course this year, taught by new teacher Emily Weesner. At the end of the year the students will take their certification test, which will certify them and give them the opportunity to get jobs right out of high school.

“I want them to enjoy the journey that this year is going to be,” Weesner said. “I want them to enjoy all the different projects. I’m so excited.”

In September, students will teach handwashing to kindergarteners, and in December students will “Adopt A Grandparent” to provide companionship during the holiday season.

“I want them to learn compassion, even though most of them already have it,” Weesner said. “And I just want to watch them grow. I can’t wait to watch them grow.”

Weesner has fourteen years of nursing experience and has missed having nursing students. Working at Lindale High School has given her the opportunity to be in that environment once again.

“My goal is to just pour into the lives of each individual student that I have,” Weesner said. “I hope that I make a mark on their lives. I want them to feel encouraged and valued in this class.”
