The varsity girls basketball team ended the overall season as District Champs with a 20-12 record and district with a record of 11-1.
“I am very proud of the team and how they played together as a team this season,” basketball coach Daniel Devisscher said. “The girls are all so talented and dedicated to putting their all into this game.”
Two of the girls won district superlatives, the highest district honors. Sophomore Marley Keith (00) won Most Valuable Player (MVP) for District 16 AAAA and Junior Brooke Everest (2) won Defensive Player of the Year.
“This is a really important award that I am so honored to have received,” Everest said. “This season I have improved my skills greatly and become really good friends with multiple girls on the team, which is something I wanted to do at the beginning of the year.”
In addition to the superlatives, seniors Brenley Philen (21) and Maggie Spearman (25) both won 1st Team All-District. The winners of 2nd Team All-District are juniors Makenna Burks (5), Desirae Pennington (20), and Jillina Ortiz (32).
“I cannot wait to play on this team for the last time next year,” Everest said. “I can already tell that my senior year is going to be amazing.”
Honorable Mention All-District winners were sophomores Kayli Vickery (3), Madison Luster (4), Allie Davenport (12), and senior Madison Plunkett (15). All members on the team received the Academic All District 16 AAAA award.
“I am very proud of the season our girls had this year,” Devisscher said. “They got better every day.”
