Early Lead Sets Stage For Baseball’s Victory Over Texas High

The Eagles varsity baseball team defeated Texas High 7-3 Tuesday thanks to a strong start. Lindale scored on a groundout by senior Cody Pike in the first inning, a single by sophomore Brandon Burckel in the first inning, a sacrifice fly by junior Matt Aubuchon in the second inning, a single by junior Staton Dudley in the second inning and a single by senior Chase Rozell in the second inning.

The team pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. Aubuchon’s sac fly scored one run for the Eagles, Dudley singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run and Rozell singled on an 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Senior Jacob Philpot was the winning pitcher for the team. He surrendered three runs on five hits over five innings, striking out six. Burckel threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Burckel recorded the last six outs to earn the save.

Brandon Burckel earned the game ball last night and is giving it to Officer DeWolfe.
