The Lindale Speech and Debate Team split squads this weekend. Several went to the Princeton tournament outside of McKinney. They had the following results:
2nd Program of Oral Interpretation – Samantha Rodden (’19)
2nd Poetry Interpretation – Samantha Rodden (’19)
3rd (Semifinals) Public Forum Debate – Kelsi Kilgore (’17) and Corban Sorrells (’17)
4th Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking – Ashlyn Ellgass (’19)
Semifinals Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking – Peyton Pascual (’18)
The team also competed at the 28th Annual Grapevine Classic. In total, the tournament featured 99 schools from 14 different states. Our debaters got to compete against students from Houston, Austin, and Dallas within Texas, but also debated students from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and California. They were also judged by adults from across the country as well.
Elizabeth Tagg (’18), competing in her third tournament of the year, competed in five different events (a total of 16 performances on Saturday). She made the semifinals in Prose and Poetry, placed 6th in Humorous Interpretation, and WON the entire tournament in Program of Oral Interpretation. With her win, Elizabeth becomes the FIRST student in Lindale history to qualify for the Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky. She will look to continue to add to her qualifications and will compete at the TOC in April.
