Lindale theater students are kicking off the new year with auditions for Our Town,
“Our Town is a play written by Thornton Wilder that won the Pulitzer Prize in 1938 for drama, and it takes place in a really small town in New Hampshire called Grover’s Corners,” theater director Taylor Jarman said. “It’s really just about the comings and goings of the town.”
The play is actually an anti-theatre piece, which means that it’s not realistic at all. The stage manager actually plays a part in the show, and he lists off all of the actor’s and director’s names while on stage.
“Thornton Wilder wanted you to be in the theater and realized you were watching something happen,” Jarman said. “He really pulls you in with a lot of the cool stuff we’re going to do with the set and the chorus.”
Along with co-director Cynthia Stokes, Jarman will choose a second play or musical to put on besides Our Town. Although this show is to be announced, LHS actors are excited about theater starting off its new year.
“I’m really excited to learn how to walk onstage,” sophomore Elizabeth Tagg said. “I can’t wait to really experience theater for the first time.”
