High school art teachers Walter James and Rebecca Curry took a small group of photographers on a photo excursion on October 19. They visited the Edom Art Festival, as well as Ben Wheeler and the Lindale car show.
“It’s an opportunity to view the world in a different way,” Mr. James said. “In the tangible sense, they get photographs that do well in competition, but that’s a side benefit.”
Groups of art students have been taking these trips for the past four years. This year, the goal is to take a total of eight photo excursions.
“The majority of the benefits for the students lies in the fact that they get to go out of their home territory,” Ms. Curry said. “They get to work with other photographers and see different viewpoints. They also have the opportunity to be exposed to a lot of different media to take photographs of.”
Five young photographers had the opportunity to go on this trip. For some of them, this was their second time to go on one this year.
“I have been on two of these photo excursions,” senior Dalton Covey said. “I like that we get to walk around and take pictures; it’s pretty cool.”
