Never Have I Ever Played That Sport

Career and technology instructor  Jennifer King’s sports management class presented innovative sports projects  Tuesday and Wednesday. Students were instructed to create a brand new sport explaining the rules, strategies and equipment needed to play these creative activities.

“It was fun coming up with the idea,” senior Jacob Butz said. “It took a little bit of time, but it was fun coming up with random things like getting in a wheelbarrow position and eating corn dogs. It was something funny and interesting that fit our personalities well.”

Students played their sports in class if able, but most athletes showcased videos of themselves competing. Some of the sports that were presented included: glow in the dark maze running, competitive crab walking, corn dog racing and desk chair racing.

“I don’t know how I came up with it,” senior Jonah Flores said. “The idea just kinda came to me, and I was like we need to make this a real thing.”

The premise of the project was to create something new that had never been done before, and they were instructed to check YouTube to solidify originality. Each project had to incorporate teams and opponents, a design of where it is to be played and what uniforms players would wear.

“We usually do this project every year,” King said. “It helps them view the world of sports a little differently than just the usual sports we know such as baseball, basketball and football.”
