Softball Enjoys Successful Spring Break

To kick off spring break, the Lady Eagles packed up their gear and headed down south to compete in the Lady Rattler Spring Break Classic, hosted by San Marcos High School. Out of 28 teams total, the Lady Eagles took second place behind North Lamar and finished the tournament with an impressive 5-1 record.

Thursday brought three solid wins over Navarro (2-1), Greenwood (5-0), and a tough Weimar team (3-2). Junior pitcher Hannah Knox had 21 strike outs and only allowed 6 hits against all three opponents, collectively. Big hitters for the Lady Eagles on Thursday were Gracie Spearman and Dee Saunders.

Saturday brought up bracket play for Lindale, and the Lady Eagles played an intense game against Lubbock Cooper, coming up victorious 7-6. Jodi DeHart and Gracie Spearman were big at the plate with two hits a piece to help Lindale win. Lindale then faced Liberty in the semi-finals of the gold bracket and won with a score of 5-3.  Hannah Knox and Dee Saunders both had three hits a piece during the game.  After defeating Liberty in the semi-finals, Lindale then faced a familiar East Texas opponent, North Lamar, in the championship game. The Lady Eagles lost with a score of 0-5, but overall competed extremely well over the course of the weekend.

The Lady Eagles will begin district play on the road Tuesday at Jacksonville.
