The lights flicker back to life as the switch is flipped and the projector broadcasts ‘the end’ in big red letters on the screen. She crosses her hands in front of her on the table, calling everyone to attention to begin the discussion. Her voice is full of vibrancy as she bounces ideas off her fellow peers, contemplating and evaluating some of the many aspects of cinematography.

This discussion leader is none other than film club president and junior Sophie Taylor.

“Last year she was elected film club president by the club members,” film club sponsor Rebecca Harrison said. “I think seeing her leadership capabilities, the way that she handled the kids and how seriously she takes film club lead the kids to pick her.”

[My plans for the future] are go to college, have an awesome job, maybe start a t-shirt business and generally do as much cool stuff as possible.

Taylor was the director of the club-lead film last year and has already put in a lot of work this year to recruit and grow club interest. She dreams of either becoming a physical therapist of a screenwriter, and her greatest loves include people, movies and chocolate.

“If I could trade places with anyone for a day, it would be Christopher Nolan,” Taylor said. “[I would like to] just to see what it is like to work on a movie.”

Taylor has many talents beyond just her expertise in film. Some of her many talents include playing the cello, writing screenplays, cross-stitching, belly dancing and knife-throwing. She has also often been told good things about her baking abilities.

“[My plans for the future] are go to college, have an awesome job, maybe start a t-shirt business and generally do as much cool stuff as possible,” Taylor said. “Then when I’m old, [I plan] to play pranks on all of the other older people in my nursing home.”

You may find Sophie rolling up to the school in her Prius, probably listening to classical music, alternative, or “good quality’ rap.

“I am blessed to be a part of a school that’s doing its best to prepare me for the future,” Taylor said.
