Varsity volleyball competes in double-header

On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles took on Carthage and Quitman in a home dual match.
The Freshmen team went 1-1 on the night, losing to Carthage but defeating Quitman.  Scores against Carthage were 17-25 and 20-25, and scores against Quitman were 25-23 and 25-14.
The JV team went 2-0 on the night defeating both teams.  Scores against Carthage were 25-23 and 25-14, and scores against Quitman were 25-19 and 25-17.
The Varsity went 1-1 on the night, beating Carthage in a 5 set battle and losing to Quitman in 3 sets.  Scores against Carthage were: 25-10, 24-26, 25-18, 24-26, and 15-11.  Leading the play at the net for the Lady Eagles were Hannah Knox (14 kills, 1 block),  Brina Kuslak (13 kills), and Lorin Reue (9 kills).  Libero Alisha Kiser had an astounding 50 digs in the 5 set match.  Setters Harleigh Thurman and Kalaya Pierce put up big numbers as well on the night.  Thurman had 29 assists and 10 digs, and Pierce had 17 assists and 9 digs.
Against Quitman, scores were 23-25, 28-30, and 24-26.  It was a very tight, competitive dual between the two teams.  Leading the play at the net was Brina Kuslak (12 kills, 3 blocks), Hannah Knox (7 kills, 2 blocks), and Shelbi Steen (6 kills).  Alisha Kiser kept play going with 31 digs on the match,a nd Jennifer Moyer assisted her by adding 12 digs.  Harleigh Thurman had 20 assists, and Kalaya Pierce added 12 more on the night.
The Lady Eagles are home again Friday September 1st against Lufkin.  The match starts at 4:30.  The JV and Freshmen teams will be competing in the Winona tournament this weekend.
