Debate comes in swinging

Debate comes in swinging

First meets of the year show great results

The Lindale Speech and Debate team traveled to not one but two tournaments this weekend.  This format of tournaments is called a “swing” where both tournaments are held in the same place but sponsored by two different schools.  In this case, both tournaments were held at Hallsville High School, but Saturday’s portion was sponsored by Van High School. Our results are as follows:

Hallsville Portion (Friday):

1st CX Debate – Alec Ramsey and Jonas Thrasher-Evers

2nd CX Debate – Ronak Desai and Anthony Wyatt

5th CX Debate – Robert McWhorter and Konnor Scott

(Alec was the top speaker for the tournament.)

Quarterfinals (5th) LD Debate – Griffon James

2nd Congressional Debate – Evan Bewersdorf

4th Congressional Debate – Grant Root

3rd Poetry Interpretation – Elizabeth Tagg

4th Original Oratory – Elizabeth Tagg

Alec and Jonas, as well as Ronak and Anthony earned enough points to qualify for the TFA State meet (in the first weekend of the year).  This makes them the first teams to qualify in the entire state of Texas.

Evan is two/thirds of the way qualified in Congressional Debate.  Grant is halfway qualified in Congressional Debate.  Griffon is halfway qualified in LD Debate.  Elizabeth is one/third of the way qualified in Original Oratory.  Grant, Evan, and Griffon also have received points for qualification in a second event.

Very exciting opening weekend!!!
