A.I. has been a hot topic for schools of all levels for the last several years. Most every place of higher education enforces a heavy no plagiarism policy, which includes A.I. usage. But, without an A.I. checker, can anyone really tell what is A.I. and what is not?
The real question is, can you?
These essays were both composed under the prompt “write an essay about what veterinary career you want to go into and why.”
Story 1:
When I was little I used to sit for hours and watch “Pitbulls and Parolees”, “Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet”, and “The Vet Mobile”. I was completely obsessed with everything animal-related. I dressed as a veterinarian for every career day and every Halloween, but had someone asked me then what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have replied as most children similar to me would: “I want to save animals,” not “I want to be a veterinarian.” Unlike others who were similar to me as children, that is still how I would respond today. I want to be a rescue and disaster veterinarian in order to save as many animals as I can.
Ever since I could understand what animals are, I have tried my hardest to love every one I meet. I believe that every animal deserves love and a good home, as well as help when they need it. That is why the idea of having the ability to save animals from both natural and man made disasters excites me. One day at work, my father cut down a tree with a flying squirrel’s nest in it. My mother has nursed many wild animals back from certain death, so he brought us five orphaned newborns. This was my first experience nurturing animals in distress, and it was one of the most beautiful things I have partaken in. We stayed up at night syringe feeding them until they could eat on their own. Giving creatures like these squirrels a second chance and providing a safe environment is what excites me about this career.
It takes true commitment to handle a job that includes so much pressure. In situations where an animal’s life is in danger, a veterinarian needs to have compassion, patience, and be level-headed. Since every living creature is important, the rescuer also has to be devoted enough to not give up, even when the situation seems impossible. I have lived on a farm my entire life; partaking in the care of a pasture’s worth of lives requires all of these qualities, along with being able to put your feelings and stomach aside to do what needs to be done. I have helped animals give birth, bottle fed babies, and given as comfortable ends of life as I could. Being cool under pressure and genuinely enjoying making the existence of animals better is what it takes to succeed in this field.
My upbringing and experiences have led me to the conclusion that every creature is worth the time and effort it takes to save it. Being a rescue and disaster responder will allow me to live out my passion and watch hundreds of animals’ lives be changed for the better every year. This career is what I want to devote myself to, and this program will allow me to discover amazing resources that will take me a step closer to that goal.
Story 2:
From when I was very young, I’ve been super interested in nature and really wanted to help animals. They’ve always been special to me, and I’m always wanting to learn more about them. Because I love animals and science, I really want to be a veterinarian. I think it’s the perfect way to combine these two things and help animals a lot.
It’s going to be hard work to become a veterinarian. It means lots of studying and learning, but I know I can do it because I’m dedicated and I work hard. I’m excited to learn all about animal bodies and how to treat them when they’re sick or hurt. I’ve also helped out at an animal shelter, and seeing the vets there made me want this even more.
When I’m studying to be a vet, I want to focus on helping wild animals. Our world is getting more dangerous for them because of what people do, and their health shows how our planet is doing. I want to help protect them by taking care of injured animals, studying their diseases, and teaching people to take care of the environment. This lets me combine my love for animals with helping the earth.
Being a veterinarian means more than just treating animals. I also want to help find new ways to diagnose and treat them even better. I think doing research is super important for this. So, I plan to work with other experts to learn more about animal diseases and find better ways to help. I’m so thankful for this scholarship, which will help me get closer to my goal of becoming a veterinarian and making a difference in the world.
