The student body named its final homecoming court on October 25 at the homecoming football game. The queen is senior Kennedy Miller and the other nominees are seniors Lily Ledsom, Sarah Christian, and Regan Hope.
“I feel good about being named homecoming queen,” Miller said. “I feel grateful that I have people in my life that support me.”
Miller was announced as a nominee for homecoming queen at the October 25 pep-rally, where at this point none of the nominees knew who would be queen. At the football game she was escorted by her father where she was announced as queen.
“I believe I was chosen as queen because I’m friendly with everybody,” Miller said. “I’m an easy and outgoing person and easy to get along with.”
Miller participates in track, basketball, and cheer. In basketball her team made it to playoffs last school year and in cheer she was named as all american cheerleader at a summer camp. After school she plans to attend college and major in education to become a teacher.
“I feel good being named an All American Cheerleader,” Miller said. “It was hard learning all the stuff but finally going out and doing it was good.”
Senior Sarah Christian was nominated for queen. She participates in band as the head drum major, NHS and dances competitively outside of school at Dance Dimensions in Mineola.
“I was really honored and really excited for the whole homecoming process,” Christian said. “I’ve tried my best to make connections all throughout the band, and I feel like they had a big role in my nomination.”
Christian led the band to their fifth consecutive UIL state championship Tuesday night, and she has also been to national championship dance competitions around Texas and won five times. She plans to attend Dallas Baptist University and major in education to become a teacher. She wants to be on the Patriots dance team at the university.
“I help kids everyday and I absolutely love it, so it’s really inspirational and fun,” Christian said. “I absolutely love dancing and competing, and it’s my number one passion.”
Senior Lily Ledsom was nominated to be queen. She participates in theater and is participating in the upcoming play “Clue.” She is also taking law classes.
“Being nominated for homecoming queen was really exciting,” Ledsom said. “I had a lot of fun and I was really honored to be nominated.”
In theater, Ledsome is the president of the International Thespian Society (ITS) and has been a member throughout high school. She plans to attend Northwestern University in Louisiana to pursue law and theater.
“The theater crew are my biggest supporters,” Ledsom said. “I have a very big theater family, so it really warmed my heart to be nominated.”
The senior duchess is Bailey Gilleland. She participates in FFA, NHS, and is an athletic trainer.
“I thought being senior duchess was really fun,” Gilleland said. “I am so happy that my class decided to choose me, and it was really a great honor.”
Gilleland has competed at the state level in FFA and is the reporter officer for the organization. She plans to attend the University of Texas at Tyler and major in nursing.
“I’ve been in FFA since I was like 8 years old, so I have kind of grown up in it,” Gilleland said. “They’re all like my best friends, pretty much, and just being able to go throughout my time with them has been really exciting.”
