The UIL science, mathematics, spelling, and literary criticism teams will compete at the UIL Invitational Meet at Liberty Hill on Saturday.
“I am so excited to be competing this weekend,” senior Angelina Jansen said. “Overnight trips are always a great bonding moment for the team, and we have a lot of fun.”
Tomorrow, the teams will stop by the Waco Union Hall to eat and go to the Lakeline Mall in Cedar Park.
“I’m super excited to go to the overnight meet,” junior Laura Whatley said. “I’m also excited to hang out with my team and have fun.”
The teams will go to their hotel and study before the competition. They will leave Saturday morning to compete against schools in central Texas.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how my science team competes against teams in Central Texas,” UIL science coach Duane Walton said. “Since we usually compete against those in East Texas, I’m excited to see how we do.”
They will find out whether they will be categorized as a whole or in small and large school divisions . Normally, Lindale is in the small school category with schools that are 4A and below.
“I am excited for our UIL meeting because I really enjoy traveling with close school friends and strengthening our friendships,” junior Emma Dilley said. “I also love competing together.”
The purpose of this meet is to prepare schools before district. Schools compete at the end of March and the beginning of April in district for the actual district contest.
“It’s always exciting to get to go to these overnight events,” junior Tasneem Smadi said. “I can’t wait to compete and put in all the effort we’ve been working on during practices.”
