Tennis And Golf See Success at State

Tennis and golf win multiple awards at their state tournaments. Tennis had five students place in the top four and golf placed ninth.

“I’m excited to see the girls learn just how far hard work will take you in life,” head golf coach Lindsay Kelly said. “Golf has been a great teacher of life lessons for them for the past several years, and what they will take away from this sport to use in their next chapter of life will be priceless.”

Six players advanced to the tennis state tournament with five placing in the semifinals. Senior Bailee Lane placed in girls singles, senior Taegan Michele and sophomore Bre Taylor in girls doubles, and senior Soren Petersen and Junior Hayden Harry boys doubles.

“The team has done great all spring,” coach Randal Nammany said. “I am really excited to have four of the five divisions competing at the state tournament.  There is not a team that really has any players a whole lot stronger than Lindale at the state Tournament so I am hoping that we go out and compete at a very high level and get some wins.”

At tennis regionals, Lindale qualified for 13 of the 16 District 16 total spots. All of those players advanced to the second round with wins. The team was  ranked third in the state.

“Making it to both the fall and spring state tournaments has been a long time goal of mine since I started playing tennis seven years ago,” Petersen said. “For me it’s the perfect ending of my senior year and high school tennis career in total.”

Golf State held a total 12 teams in the 4A region at the tournament in Kingsland. The girls placed in the top 10 in the state.

“The teams have made myself and Coach Temple so proud,” coach Lindsay Kelly said. “They have improved so much from the beginning of the season and put in a lot of work.”

At the regional tournament, the girls golf team placed first and the boys team placed fourth. Kenzie McClenny placed third overall and Kennedy Weesner placed sixth overall with both girls making the all region team.

I’m excited to see the girls learn just how far hard work will take you in life,” Kelly said. “Golf has been a great teacher of life lessons for them for the past several years, and what they will take away from this sport to use in their next chapter of life will be priceless.”
