Sports Recap April 4-11

The Eagles Baseball and Lady Eagles Softball team competed and won in several games last week. The Eagles Baseball team is now heading into the second half of their district games.

“We are still young in a couple of areas, but are battling and that’s what you want to see from a coaching perspective,” softball coach Meredith Grant said. “I believe we are peaking at the right time.”

The baseball team competed 3 times last week against Atlanta, Chapel Hill, and Crandall. The Eagles won against Atlanta with a score of 5-2, Chapel Hill with a score of 8-5, and lost against Crandall with a score of 7-6 in extra innings.

“We are starting to play better,” baseball coach Richard Sanguinetti said. “We are treating every game like it is a must-win game.”

Softball Lady Eagles Varsity played 3 games this last week against Bullard, Kilgore and Spring Hill. The Lady Eagles lost against Bullard then won last Friday 15-7 against Kilgore with sophomore Dylan Adams throwing 12 outs in four innings. The Lady Eagles recorded another victory against Spring Hill Monday night and won 10-9 with a walk-off victory.

“I remember being so nervous when I was in the hole getting ready to bat, but as soon as I stepped into the box, all the nerves went away. I took a deep breath and knew I could hit the ball,” Miller said. “I was just super proud of myself and my team, because after all, softball is a team sport and we never could have won without all of us working together.”
