Sports Recap March 22 – 25

The softball team played Kilgore March 22 and defeated them 11-1.They also played Spring Hill March 25 and defeated them 20-6. This brings their overall record to 11-8 with a tally of 2-1 in district games. Sophomore Olivia Gary had the most runs batted in at 5. Sophomore Kayli Vickery was second with 3 runs batted in. Senior Darby Woodrum also ran 3 out of 5 times at the plate with a single and two doubles. Sophomore Liliana Miller stole the most bases at 4. Sophomore Dylan Adams got the win of the night with freshman Addison Frazier, and senior Emily Myers closing out the game in relief.

“Softball is definitely one of my favorite passions in life,” senior Jesika Miller said. “Our team is like a family and no matter if we win or lose we always go and learn to play a better game next time.”

The girls and boys golf teams played in their last invitational before their district game next week at Van Zandt Club in Canton. For the boys team sophomore Ryan French scored an 81, junior Tom Bordelanne scored an 82, sophomore Bryce Covington scored an 89, freshman Jackson Pullin scored a 98, and junior Crew Goodson scored a 101. The girls team placed third overall with  junior Kennedy Weesner scored a 78, freshman Kenzie McClenny scored an 83, junior Julee King scored an 85, sophomore Preslee Pullin scored a 98, and junior Lauren Van Andel scored a 100.

“I am very excited about how I have played this season,” Van Andel said. “I love golf and as I play I love to see myself improving year after year.”

Both girls and boys varsity soccer teams played Spring Hill on March 22. They played Paris on March 25 in the first round of the playoffs. The boys team lost with a finale score of 0-1 while the girls team also lost with a final score of 1-4. That was their final game of the season with the boys final tally at 12-9-3 overall and 4th in district. While the girls ended their season with 12-8-2 and 3rd in district.

“I have had some of the greatest moments with the soccer team this year,” senior Cassandra Hartman said. “We ended off strong and we grew stronger as a team.”
