Journalism team wins STATE!

Team members Lily Hering, Jessie Elliott, and Bethany Thompson brought back the gold this week with their overall team win at  the 4A State Journalism Championship.

“I am so proud of all these girls have accomplished,” adviser Neda Morrow said.  “Their hard work really took them to the next level, and they made all of Lindale proud today.”

Team member Lily Hering won the gold medal in feature writing and was also awarded the “Tops in Texas” award for feature.  This award is given to the one student from all the classifications (1A through 5A) who has the highest score overall in each event.

“I am very excited about winning Tops in Texas,” Hering said.  “I was surprised when they called my name, but once they did I couldn’t stop smiling.”

Jessie Elliott, a three-time veteran to the state contest, won 2nd place in feature writing and 5th place in editorial.  Bethany Thompson, a first-year state competitor, won 4th place in editorial writing.

“It was so fulfilling to complete my final year as a UIL competitor with success,” Elliott said.  “I know that the program will continue and be stronger than ever, but I am sad to leave it behind.”
