On Wednesday, members of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club met at the flagpole for worship and prayer. Members of the community as well as students attended the event.
“Meet you at the pole is a great way for like minded people all across the country to come together and pray for our schools, our community, our country, and our world,” sponsor Lindsey Kelly said. “I am a Christ follower and want to use my time pointing kids to Jesus as much as I can.”
This meeting consisted of student lead prayer and worship, led by senior Carson Shipman. Junior Landon Greb, Hudson Kinney and senior Caleb Sullivan also participated in the worship team.
“I joined FCA leadership specifically because I feel like the lord is calling me to reach the people in my school the best I can,” Greb said. “I also just love to get involved with anything that spreads the gospel more.”
It began raining midway through the service so students huddled under the front awning. They later moved to the lecture hall.
“It was kind of crazy that it started raining and it was very different compared to the years in the past,” senior FCA officer Clara Helvey said. “I thought that it was encouraging that we had so many more people there compared to the years before.”
Officers are given extra responsibilities and are given opportunities to lead the meetings. Junior Macy Luster is a first year FCA officer but has been attending meetings since her freshman year.
“I think meet you at the pole is important because it helps us get together and worship and just thank God for what we have in our lives,” Luster said. “ I joined FCA because I want to deepen my relationship with God and I feel like this is a great way to do that.”
FCA members meet in the lecture hall on Thursday for 15 minutes before school. Anyone, including non-athletes, are allowed to join the club.
“I would say, go for it and take the risk to anyone considering joining FCA,” junior FCA officer Emalee McKeever said. “Just do whatever you can to grow in your faith.”
