Senior Karis Pollard signed to play golf at Florida Gateway College on Thursday. She received the highest athletic scholarship the school hands out.
“I am so excited for Florida Gateway,” Pollard said. “I think it’s going to be an amazing experience to learn more about golf and be with new girls. I have put in a lot of time and effort into golf and I am glad that I get to see the results of all of my work.”
Pollard started playing golf her sophomore year of high school. Most players who make it to the college level started in junior high.
“I am beyond proud of Karis because the story of how she started is so unique,” varsity golf coach Lindsey Kelley said. “Some people would say she came to golf late but because she worked so hard, rain or shine it didn’t matter, she is signing to play golf in college.”
