The advanced art students have been working on an individual glass art project the past three weeks. The project involves students designing glass with different methods such as Faux painting.
“This project is interesting,” art teacher Rebecca Harrison said. “This project gives students who enjoyed painting the school windows at the beginning of the year a way to take home a piece of that same art.”
Mrs. Harrison gave students the opportunity to vote on the end of year project, and the students agreed on the glass painting project. Students are required to choose if they would like to do a faux stained glass or just a glass painting, and they must also include a 3D element.
“One of the reasons I really like this project is it gives students the opportunity to work with a medium that they haven’t worked on,” Harrison said. “I like this as an opportunity for students to work through challenges that students don’t expect.”
Students have no topic during this project, the content is completely decided by the individual. The biggest difference between the two styles of painting is that faux painters are putting a deep black rim around every element in their painting.
“My favorite part is watching the kids overcome challenges and helping them brainstorm and work with something they’re not used to.” Harrison said. “It’s been fun getting to watch them think through their work critically.
This project is very similar to the beginning of the year stain glass window project. However, with this end of the year project students get to take home their projects.
“My favorite part of this project was getting to design and choose my colors for the glass,” sophomore Aven O’Daniel said. “I’ve really enjoyed getting to choose my own theme and express myself creatively.”
