Members of the journalism UIL team participated in virtual competitions including Centex and MRC in December and January and received 35 medals. The next UIL contest will be in Liberty Hill on March 2.
“I love this team, and I think they are doing a great job,” UIL journalism coach Neda Morrow said. “I think they are putting in the work to make their writing better.”
They competed in Centex in December and received 19 medals. They were ranked with other 4A schools in the area.
“The competitive aspect in journalism is what keeps me motivated to continually improve,” senior Jaida Jones said. “I’m proud of our results and hope to improve throughout the season.”
The team competed in MRC in January and received 16 medals. They were ranked in the large school category which consists of 3A to 6A schools.
“Competing and winning is fun, but I love to see the improvement of the team by each meet,” junior Paula Arantes said. “I’m excited for the rest of the season and the next trip with my friends.”
The team prepares by writing papers and competing at practice UIL events, which are usually held on Saturdays. They also practice before competitions by reviewing their previous papers.
“Practices are always fun with friends,” junior Sydney Hines said. “We put in a lot of time and dedication, and it’s always nice to see our hard work pay off.”
