The FFA held its annual chapter show recently. It included a speaking contest as well as a livestock show which included faculty ‘celebrities.’
“It was a great show competing against friends and fellow chapter members,” freshman Kamryn Dickerson-West said.
Grand and reserved buckles were given to the winners of the speaking contest and livestock show, a banner was given to breed champions, and a champion buckle went to the best showman. Ribbons were also given in each livestock class.
“It was really helpful for practicing our showmanship and getting ring time right before our first county show of the season,” Dickerson-West said.
All of the lamb competitors chose a teacher or staff member to show their lamb for a showmanship buckle. At the end, agriculture teachers also competed for showmanship.
”It was great to bring teachers into the world of showing,” junior Lane Olds said. “I give them a first hand experience at the work necessary for members to put in at livestock shows.
ASL teacher Amy Thompson participated alongside sophomore Faith Olds. It has been over 30 years since Thompson stepped out of the show ring.
“It was a super fun night at the Lindale FFA barn,” Thompson said. “This was a fun opportunity.”
English teacher Alex Powell also participated alongside junior Lane Olds. Powell received the opportunity to show his lamb at the show.
“I had a blast,” Powell said. “Thank you, Lane, for the invite and including me on the fun. I didn’t win a buckle, but maybe next time.”
