On Wednesday, life skills students from Lindale and Whitehouse played each other in basketball. The Lindale team beat the Whitehouse team 32-16, though the crowd was deafening for every point from each side.
“Our students are learning the game and working hard,” diagnostician Casey Wynne said. “Playing basketball allows them to work on gross motor skills, along with social skills.”
The team started practicing in November. They did this twice a week in their physical education classes.
“They learned to work cooperatively as a team and pass the ball effectively,” instructor Christy Bateman said. “Learning game etiquette and how to be a good sport was also included in our weekly practices.”
This event was arranged in order to give the students an opportunity to play the game against another team, as they had been practicing in P.E.
“I had fun,” student DeMarcus Johnigan said. “I passed the ball to my friends.”
