The culinary class made baklava dessert on Tuesday and Wednesday. Baklava is a dish originally made in ancient Greece and is known for its sweet flavor and flaky texture.
“We just did a historical food unit from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and different areas and time periods,” culinary teacher Angela Green said. “We decided to choose baklava because they had to make a banquet menu, and on the menu most of them had this dish on it.”
Baklava is made by layering thin pieces of dough on top of each other. In between the layers, there is melted butter and filling. The filling is a mixture of walnuts and cinnamon. After it has been baked, a sauce, made with honey, water and sugar is drizzled on top.
“The atmosphere in the kitchen is really fun and playful,” senior Logan Sanders said. “We mess around but we still get things done.”
