UIL Academics To Compete at State

The members of the UIL academics team will compete at the state competition next week. The meet will take place at UT Austin May 16 through 18.

“I am so excited to compete and represent Lindale,” senior Christian Wynne said. “I hope we do well and are able to showcase our full capabilities.” 

State competitors include senior Kylie Kleam in computer applications, junior Jaida Jones and senior Kailee Huston in ready writing, junior Julia Montgomery in copywriting and editorial writing. Senior Christian Wynne will compete in editorial writing. Trevor Smith, Angelina Jansen, Madeleine Morton, and Fatema Smadi will compete in science.

“Going to state as a senior is going to be so fun,” senior Kailee Huston said. “I’m so glad to be able to have the opportunity to showcase my skills on the state level this year.”

 Junior Jakob Davenport will compete in persuasive speaking, and has already competed in congressional debate, CX debate, and the essay contest. Junior Jaxson Buttram competed already in CX debate. Freshman Madison Barnes will compete in  informative speaking.

“Going to a state competition is always an exciting experience,” Davenport said. “It’s different each time and I always have to do my best in everything I do.”
