At the district tennis match against Van on October 4, the varsity tennis team won and became district champions. On October 10, the team beat Farmersville 19-0, earned the title of bi-district champions, and advanced toward Area.
“My only expectation is for the team to continue to prepare to play at a high level, for them to remember all that has got them here and to go be [the] best competitor and teammate they can be,” head tennis coach Randal Namanny said.
The team won 10-1 against Sulphur Springs on October 13, making them Area Champions. They also beat Kaufman 10-0 on October 17 and Anna in the regional semis 10-4 on October 20.
“I’m super pleased with how our team is performing this year,” junior Nicole Hines said. “This season has been super successful, and I know we will finish strong.”
The team competed against Wills Point in the regional finals and won 10-7, advancing them toward the UIL 4A State Championship.
“[The team has] done nothing but improve all season,” Namanny said. “They are undefeated in 4A.”
In order to make it to the finals, the team will have to win 6 straight matches. So far, they have won 5, and only two more are needed for a Championship.
“These players and coaches have worked so hard and for them to see it pay off and achieve a goal that we set at the beginning of the season is surreal,” Namanny said. “[I’m] so proud of all of them and excited for the opportunity to compete at the state tournament.”
