The Star Steppers drill team will begin their dance season on August 26. They will perform a pom routine that will also be used for competition.
“We are beyond excited to take on the challenge of competing this year,” assistant director Krista Mullican said. “The 2022-2023 Star Steppers have the resilience and dedication to achieve this tremendous goal and as their assistant Director I can’t wait to see what all is in store for our organization.”
This is the first year that the drill team will compete in a dance competition to be held at TJC on January 28.
“I love competition season with my dance studio, so I am super excited to see what it will be like to compete with the drill team,” senior lieutenant Macy Beeler said. “I am so ready for this year.”
The drill team will compete with three different group dances including a jazz, pom, and kick. Officers will also compete with jazz, contemporary, and lyrical dances.
“I am so glad I have the opportunity to be captain this year,” captain Kerrigan Pierce said. “I’ve been dancing for so long and having the ability to help so many girls is amazing.”
These competition dances were taught to the drill team by college level dancers at their line camp over the summer. The team will work on perfecting their performance every day until competition.
“This is a really talented group of girls,” Pierce said. “Adding a competition this year will definitely intensify the workload, but I know they will work super hard and get it done.”
