Gatsby Gala To Be Held May 18

The junior English classes will be holding the Gatsby Gala as a project for the junior classes on May 18. This gala will include booths, performances, games, and food. The project will take place in the gym for the first half of the day and in the PAC the second half, and all juniors will be excused from their classes.

I’m so excited that we are able to continue the Gatsby Gala this year,” English teacher Kristin Schlessman said. “I think this is a great opportunity for students to have hands-on, creative learning as they put their knowledge of The Great Gatsby and the Roaring Twenties into play for the gala.”

Each student has a choice to hold a booth or do a performance during the second half of the day. This could include singing, dancing, playing instruments, or short films.

“My plan is to make everyone love being there,” junior Trey Mazratian said. “I have always enjoyed being a light in people’s lives and this will give me an opportunity to do so in students’ lives that I haven’t ever talked to.”

In the gym, there will be 1920s themed booths, games, and food that are made and hosted by groups of juniors. These booths will include themes such as pubs, speakeasies, moonshiners, etc.

“I’m extremely excited, and I believe the teachers have done a great job of getting everything in order as it should be,” Mazratian said. “I feel like it’s a perfect opportunity for people to come together and have a good time.”

During the second half of the day, the juniors will go to the PAC to watch performances. Following the performances, they will watch The Great Gatsby until school is out.

We have such talented juniors, so I’m really looking forward to seeing their ideas come to life,” Schlessman said.
