UIL Team Places at Regionals

The members of the UIL academics team competed at the regional competition on Saturday, April 23. The meet took place at A&M Commerce.
“The science team has been performing well all year and we are extremely proud of the countless hours they have put in studying,” science teacher Katy Lyles said. “Troy has worked extremely hard this year to get to this point and is ready to compete at state against some very tough competition.”
Students who placed 1st-3rd will advance to the state competition. Sophomore Kaylee Kelley placed third in computer applications, senior Vivian Lehmann placed first in copy editing, editorial writing, and feature writing, senior Lian Boone placed third in editorial writing, senior Troy Dane placed third in science, junior Krissy Dearing placed second in poetry interp, senior Marlee Sorrells placed first in news writing, senior Gavin James placed third in persuasive writing, and senior Blake Reeves placed third in computer science.
“This has been such a good year for our UIL team,” Dearing said. “These people I compete with have become basically family and I cannot wait to compete at state with them.”
Teams can also place 1st-3rd and advance to the state meet. The computer science team placed third, the journalism team placed first, and the spelling team placed first.
“I have grown a lot this year, in both academics and just life in general,” Dane said. “I am so sad that I will be competing at my last state meet ever, but I’m also excited.”
