The varsity boys and girls basketball teams won during the Christmas break. The boys won against Canton and the girls were the champions at a tournament in Hawkins.
“Both teams are crushing it this year,” Daniel Devisscher, varsity girls basketball coach said. “We are very proud of how they are doing.”
The boys had previously lost to Canton earlier in the season. However, for this game, they were down by 14 in the third quarter, and managed to win the game by outscoring Canton 23-4 in the fourth quarter.
“This game showed that we are growing and improving as a team,” Christopher Grotemat, varsity boys basketball coach said. “The team is really starting to come together and is playing very unselfishly.”
The girls competed against several teams at the Hawkins tournament. They beat White Oak 67-17, Gladewater 55-17, and Hawkins 58-52, and won the tournament.
“Our Lady Eagles are doing extremely well this year,” Devisscher said. “We played a very strong pre-district schedule and have made it through some tough battles and I think we are much stronger right now at this point in the year because of those great competitive game experiences. Our ladies are prepared for any team that we will tip off against for the remainder of this season.”
