The Varsity football team won their playoff game against Lumberton 56-39 and will play an Area game against El Campo Thursday at McClane Stadium in Waco, Texas.
Senior Sam Peterson had 19 complete passes, totalling 266 yards with an average of 14 yards per pass and 3 touchdown passes. He also had 128 rushing yards and averaged 11.5 yards gained per carry with 2 touchdowns. Senior Clint Thurman had one complete pass, totalling 28 yards. He had 78 rushing yards and averaged 6 yards gained per carry with 1 touchdown. Senior Evan Alford had 10 receptions with a total of 130 receiving yards, averaging 13 yards per reception. Junior Trey Mazratian had a total of 20 knockdowns, and junior Will Hutchins had 13 along with Senior Casey Poe.
“I was extremely confident when our team started to take over at halftime after making adjustments,” junior Trey Mazratian said. “Just like coach Cochran always says, your best is good enough, and that’s why we won the game.”
The girls golf team placed second at the Bullard Fall Invitational. Freshman Kenzie McClenny placed first overall. The team missed out of first place by seven strokes.
“I’m really proud of how my teammates did this season,” sophomore Charlotte McConathy said. “We’ve been working really hard this season and I think it really paid off.”
