The varsity football team will play Lumberton High School at Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches Friday night to face off in their first playoff game. The varsity volleyball team faced Sunnyvale at Athens Nov. 6.
“I’m extremely proud of our football team and their improvement throughout the season,” principal Jeremy Chilek said. “I am even more proud of how our coaches and players carry themselves on the field and on our campus. All of their success is contagious and our student body and staff are excited to face Lumberton in the Bi-District Round.”
The football team faced Kilgore for the district champion title at the Eagles Stadium last Friday and lost 58-65 with a record of 5-1. They now advance to the playoffs.
“We don’t talk much about anything other than the next game,” head coach Chris Cochran said. “If we focus on future possibilities, we aren’t focused on what we can control, which is the game this week. We have a 1 and 0 mindset, which is complete focus on this game.”
For their first playoff match, the volleyball team faced Pleasant Grove in Marshal Nov. 2 and won with a record of 19-19. Pleasant Grove was ranked first while Lindale was ranked fourth.
“I am most excited about the playoffs because I absolutely love this team and want them to surpass all expectations,” head volleyball coach Jessica Camp said. “Our expectations for the playoffs have been met and we are hoping to exceed them Saturday morning.”
The volleyball later faced Sunnyvale and lost 3-2, ending their playoff season. Their record was 19-20 in the end.
“I am so proud of these girls,” Camp said. “They put in so much effort on and off the court. They truly had a team mentality and loved it so much. I will miss seeing them each day in practice.”
