The Lindale Lady Eagles took down State Ranked Bullard to pull to 21-4 on the season and 10-1 in district. We now stand alone in 1st place in district play and will seal the district championship with a win vs Henderson in Henderson on Friday. The Varsity game is scheduled to start in Henderson at 6:15.
The Lady Eagles struggled early settling into their defensive and offensive game plan. At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 22-28. To open up the 4th quarter Bullard made an offensive push and the Lady Eagles found themselves down 22-34 with 3:30 remaining in the 4th as the nets on the Lady Eagles end of the floor grew cold. Then Kalay Pierce hit a big 3 pointer with 3:28 remaining to spark our Lady Eagles into an 18-2 scoring run.
With 41.4 seconds left to go in the 4th quarter and tied now at 36-36 Shelbi Steen was fouled in an offensive transition and went to the free throw line for a 1&1 opportunity on Bullard’s 7th foul of the 1/2. Shelbi knocked down both Free Throws to put the Lady Eagles up 38-36. Bullard controlled the ball and with 11.6 seconds on the clock Bullard turned the ball over on a sideline out-of-bounds play. Bullard then full court pressed us and we found our point guard Kalaya Pierce on the in-bound play and she took the ball down the length of the floor to finish it off with an assist to Brooke Everest under the basket for 2 points with 5.5 seconds remaining to put the Lady Eagles up 40-36 and the game away.
“What an amazing game and I am so proud of the fight the Lady Eagles Basketball team found to push this game into the win column,” girls basketball coach, Daniel Devisscher said. “Better every day is our team slogan, and they have been doing that all year.”
