The Act X performance will be held at the Lindale Performance Arts Center on January 30. The Act program raises more than $13,000 every year for the LISD Education Foundation whose mission is to supply LISD educators with resources to increase student performance and achievement.
“The Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that raises money that is filtered back into the classrooms through grants,” Act X director Kari McKenzie said. “Having the kids and community come together to raise these funds does a great deal for teachers each year.”
The Act program raises money for the Grants for Ideas program, which awards up to $35,000 each year. Students throughout the district are encouraged to tryout for the show, and selections were made in the fall.
“The audition process for the Act program is something that I look forward to every year,” Mckenzie said. “From being able to recognize talent within our community to seeing them grow on stage through rehearsal, taking part in this is something that I take great pride in.”
The Act program, from conception to the final performance, takes months to prepare. From auditions, finding new sponsors and the hours of rehearsals, there is a lot of work to be done by directors and students alike.
“It is a highly anticipated event for all that I look forward to every year,” Courtney Sanguinetti, Foundation Executive Director, said. “Seeing everyone’s hard work come to fruition the night of the event makes everything pay off.”
