Football’s Back in Action

This Friday the Eagles Varsity football will play against the Gilmer Buckeyes at the Jeff Traylor stadium and will start at 7:30pm. Last Friday the Eagles team played against the Van Vandals at Lindale stadium and won with a score of 33-28.

“The most exciting moment in the game [against Kaufman] was the opening kick-off,” coach Justin Mason said. “From having spring cut short to thoughts of not having a season this Fall, it was exciting to get under the lights and get the 2020 season started.”

The Eagles currently have a score of 2-1 with eight games left until the playoffs. This week the Eagles will be playing the Buckeyes which have won all three of their games of the season so far, and according to Maxpreps are ranked 2nd in division 4A-2.

“As a team we know how quickly things could change,” senior running back Jordan Jenkins said. “We have been from in person to online workouts back and forth. We were not sure if we would even have a season, but now that we do, our goal is to enjoy what we have now.”

The next home game the Eagles have will be against the Mabank Panthers who currently have a record of 2-1.

“We feel really good about the year,” Mason said. “Dropping to 4A and seeing some of the best talent in East Texas Football is going to be a challenge, but I think our guys are ready to take [them] on.”

The first two games that the Eagles played were against the Kaufman Lions and the Midlothian Panthers. The Eagles won against the Lions 32-27, but lost against the Panthers 21-28.

“Do not doubt the Lindale Eagles,” Mason said. “We put in a lot of time and effort into coming up with a game plan that will best put us in a position to win, and our boys put in a lot of hard work and effort into executing that game plan and being prepared for whatever the week throws at them.”
